Charles and Christine Barthels opened French Quarter Café on Nov. 19 at 320 Park Central East. Charles Barthels manages the restaurant with seven employees, while co-owner Christine Barthels is employed as a marketing manager at Spinnaker Resorts. The space had been vacant for nearly two years when the Barthels leased it in August and completely renovated the interior, providing seating for 50. French Quarter offers specialty coffees and beignets for breakfast and a traditional Cajun menu - including alligator tail egg rolls - for lunch and dinner. "We give a 10 percent discount to everybody who works in the immediate downtown area, and to all students with school identification," Charles Barthels says. James River Mechanical & Electric Services LLC

Kelly Cook opened James River Mechanical & Electric Services LLC on Oct. 21 at 1953 Ranch Road in Nixa. The company's two employees perform commercial heating and air conditioning installation, including two boiler replacements since opening. Cook has 20 years of experience in HVAC installation. Shear Elegance

Shear Elegance opened Oct. 1 at 1711 W. Battlefield Road, Ste. J-36, in Salon Suites. Owners Angel Probyn and Jessica Spradling started the salon after completing training at Paul Mitchell's school, The System. Tenants at Salon Suites sign one-year leases to offer day spa services, including hair, nail and skin care, massages and waxes. Shear Elegance offers haircuts - $25 for women and $15 for men - as well as colors, perms and waxes. Probyn says each customer receives 50 percent off the first visit.
