The Betty Allison Family Golf Center opened May 8 on the campus of the Bill and Payne Stewart Golf Course, 1825 E. Norton Road. The 2,100-square-foot, $365,000 building is on the ninth hole of the par-3 Oscar Blom golf course and includes a multipurpose room, a small pro shop and restrooms. The Betty Allison family funded the majority of the construction cost, with the balance coming from private donations. Though the building is not open regular hours, golf pro Shawn Freeman said it is open during special events and is available to rent at $50 an hour or $100 for four hours. Phone: (417) 833-9962.

Smith Investigations & Security LLC
Ariana Smith opened Smith Investigations & Security LLC in late December at 14087 S. Solaira St. in Ozark. The business handles security for Springfield Venom semipro football games and other sports events, takes bodyguard assignments, does investigative work for court cases, and serves subpoenas and notices of lawsuits. Smith Investigations & Security has three full-time security employees and uses contract staff as needed. Glenda Smith, accounts manager, said all personnel have law enforcement experience and have undergone criminal background checks. Hours: 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Phone: (417) 860-0025.

Porterhouse Fine Meats LLC
Wholesale supplier Porterhouse Fine Meats LLC opened April 1 at 2075 James River Court in Nixa. The business, owned by Richard and Brandi Cook, sells frozen meats to businesses and individuals through 10 independent contractors who deliver across Missouri. Steak, chicken, pork and seafood are sold in cartons of 50 pounds or more. Brandi Cook said a 50-pound carton of pork chops, marinated or plain, runs around $155. Before opening Porterhouse Fine Meats, Richard Cook was finance manager for Reliable Chevrolet, and said he decided to change direction after an auto accident last summer left him seriously injured.
