Inveno Health Inc.

Inveno Health Inc. opened for business June 2 at 431 Boonville Ave. The company, named after the Latin word for discovery, is a for-profit venture designed to market, distribute, manufacture and test products developed at nonprofit St. John's Medical Research Institute; both are part of the Jordan Valley Innovation Center's plan to stimulate growth and invention in Springfield. St. John's Technical Research Director Keela Davis is largely responsible for securing the $574,000 grant used to start Inveno. Davis will aid Operations Manager Matt Price, the company's single full-time employee, in commercializing Inveno's five inaugural products, including an antiseptic eye drop called Povinol. Inveno's 3,800-square-foot building, leased from owners J. Martin and Nathan Taylor, is across the street from JVIC. Hours: 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Phone: (417) 831-1270.

Southwest Area Manufacturers Association

The Southwest Area Manufacturers Association is operating from an independent location, following a move to a 1,500-square-foot office at 4650 S. National Ave. Until April 16, Executive Director Rita Needham ran SAMA out of a 270-square-foot room in a warehouse shared with Positronic Industries Inc. SAMA's four employees keep track of 175 member companies. Needham cited growth and a need for a separate identity as reasons for the move. The association receives income from membership fees, event sponsorships and a health care consortium serving 41 companies. Hours: 8 a.m.-noon and 1-5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Phone: (417) 863-7262.

Water N Woods Outdoors

Water N Woods Outdoors is a second attempt by the Eckley family to make it in the marine business. Father Lloyd Eckley was the largest shareholder in the now-defunct Center City Marine, 1527 W. College St., the real estate for which sold during a foreclosure auction on May 29, more than 20 years after its opening. His son, Terry Eckley, runs Water N Woods Outdoors at the same location, but focuses on marine services and accessories, and used boat sales; Center City Marine sold new boats. Four employees currently work at Water N Woods, and manager Dale Eberlin said they have plans to expand into hunting gear sales this fall. Hours: 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Phone: (417) 831-2564.Springfield Business Journal brings you new businesses each week. Send business info by fax to (417) 799-0603 or by e-mail to sbj@sbj.net.
