Designed 2B Different Inc., a hodgepodge of creative services, opened on Feb. 18 at 2003 N. Broadway Ave. Owner-operator Kathleen Core showcases her paper-pulp art work there alongside pieces from 14 other artists and carries various products, from wood strippers to chocolates. She also provides "faux real" floor and wall treatments, and plans to set up an online marketing site. Core hopes to host events, the next being "Christmas in July," to aid community and area nonprofits. She estimates that startup costs for the business, in a building owned by Sean Sutton of Cornerstone Appraisal Services LLC, were between $10,000 and $15,000. Q-Enoteca

Lyle Foster, owner of Big Momma's Coffee and Espresso Bar, opened another "C-Street" business on May 9. Q-Enoteca, 308 W. Commercial St., is a 1,650-square-foot wine bar where patrons can taste 35 types of wine, 10 by the glass, and specialty beers. Wine bottles run $9 to $45 and by-the-glass from $3.50 to $9.50. Foster hired Manager Connor McClellan and a server to help him run Q-Enoteca four nights a week and will rent out the space during off-days. Live jazz is played on Saturdays, and there are plans to host wine tastings and other events. Foster said startup costs were about $40,000, and he hopes to become profitable in 18 months. Doula Foundation of Mid-America

The Doula Foundation of Mid-America, a nonprofit organization that provides support to pregnant women, relocated March 1 to 2130 N. Glenstone Ave. The foundation employs 13 at its 750-square-foot office, which it leases from Lutheran Family and Children Services. Director of Operations Denise Bischof said they plan to expand into surrounding counties its services such as birth-plan, yoga and parenting education. The Doula Foundation is primarily funded by grants from organizations such as the March of Dimes, individual contributions and the Springfield-Greene County Health Department.
