Sam Butler started his construction business, SustainaBuilt, on March 1. He leases space at 319 N. Main Ave., in a building shared with father Geoffrey Butler's design firm, Butler, Rosenbury & Partners. Sam Butler is Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design-accredited and aims to serve clients who want to use environmentally friendly techniques and sustainable designs. He has mostly performed residential remodels but hopes to do more work with commercial buildings and custom-designed green homes. Butler started the solo venture after studying green construction management at the University of California-Davis and working on green projects in the Sacramento, Calif., area. Wood Re New

Bret McGowne, owner of a Wood Re New franchise in Springfield, extended his reach to Branson with a July 1 purchase of another Wood Re New branch. He purchased the business from Clay Burtman and hopes to triple Branson-area sales within three to five years. There are 22 Wood Re New locations since Stan and Sonja Krempges started the wood-restoration company in 1993 in Springfield. The business focuses on cleaning and protecting exterior wood, be it siding or on a boat dock, though it expanded to doing tile and grout work in 2005. McGowne says do-it-yourselfers are his main competition and estimates that startup costs for a franchise are $60,000. Services for Springfield and Branson are conducted out of the Springfield office at 220 S. Dysart Ave. Hours: 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Phone: (417) 883-3303.

Pizza Plus Inc.

Buffet meals run around $8, and pizza prices are $10 to $14. Pizza Plus also sells wings and pasta and serves beer and wine. Barekman estimates that startup costs were around $150,000.
