Engineering Works LLC
Professional engineer Charles Klump opened his consulting business, Engineering Works LLC, on June 15. A Missouri native with 23 years of experience, Klump formerly worked with heavy transportation for companies such as 3M. He specializes in mechanical design, troubleshooting, optimization and testing, and is a certified thermographer. Klump is running the business out of his home in Ash Grove but is licensed in Missouri, Kansas and Nebraska. Klump estimates startup costs were around $12,000, and he expects to be profitable within the quarter. Hours: 7:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8 a.m.-noon Saturday. The Greek Corner
The Greek Corner moved Aug. 3 from its landmark location near Missouri State University to 2025 E. Chestnut Expressway, Ste. D. Jason Parke, who bought Greek Corner in January and merged it with his screen-printing business, said the move brings production and retail services into one 6,000-square-foot building. Print work was done in Nixa, while retail was handled out of the 1,200-square-foot Springfield location. The move also makes the business more central to all of the city's college campuses, Parke said. Greek Corner provides custom design, screen-printing and embroidery services, often to church groups, fraternities and schools. Hours: 8:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 8:30 a.m.-3 p.m. Friday. Phone: (417) 865-8011.
Our Cozy Cottage
Our Cozy Cottage, a membership-based community center in Rogersville, opened for business July 4. Owner and operator Debbie Moore uses a roughly 2,500-square-foot house as a space where home-based businesspeople, such as beauty consultants or artisans, come to host events. Locals who pay a $30 to $40 membership fee have access to those vendors, who pay Moore a monthly fee. She hopes to eventually have 20 vendors and 50 members, but walk-ins also can attend the events for between $5 and $15. Moore is in the process of purchasing her location at 300 S. Mill; outside of that she estimates her startup costs to be around $4,000. Hours: 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday through Saturday and noon-4 p.m. Sunday, in addition to opening for evening events.
