Randy Austin and Ryan Hart opened Dancing Mule Coffee Co. on Sept. 9 at 1945 S. Glenstone Ave. The café employs 16 and sells gourmet coffee drinks, smoothies, sandwiches and desserts from the Pie Box. Menu prices range from $1 to $7. According to www.dancingmulecoffee.com, the name is inspired by the story of the origin of coffee, which involves dancing goats. Austin said he wanted to give the story a local twist by including Missouri's state animal, the mule. Austin said that startup costs for the Dancing Mule were about $150,000. Silver Creek Gun & Pawn LLC
Silver Creek Gun & Pawn LLC opened July 1 at 319 S. Main Street, Ste. B, in Rogersville. Owner Al Baird operates the store with his wife Lori and one other employee. The store sells new and used firearms, ammunition, jewelry and loose gemstones, Indian artifacts, sporting goods and antiques. Silver Creek Gun & Pawn offers a 90-day layaway service and makes 30-, 60- or 90-day collateral loans at 15 percent monthly interest. Whole Hog Café
Whole Hog Café opened Sept. 15 at 224 W. Sunshine St., across from Bass Pro Shops. The restaurant is one of 13 locations in Arkansas, Louisiana, Missouri and New Mexico, according to www.wholehogcafe.com. Paul Sundy, Dave Warren, Mike Hesslin and Daniel Bryant operate the Springfield site under a license agreement with the Little Rock, Ark.-based company. Sundy estimates that startup costs were $500,000 and that 15 percent of the restaurant's business will come from catering. The restaurant, which employs 30, features barbecue standards such as pulled pork, brisket, chicken and salads, and its specialty is barbecue nachos. Sauces also are available for purchase at the restaurant in half-pint, pint, quart and gallon sizes. Hours: 11 a.m.-9 p.m. daily. Phone: (417) 868-0042.
