Smile for a Lifetime of the Ozarks Foundation

Dr. Mark L. Dake of Orthodontic Specialists of the Ozarks, founded Smile for a Lifetime of the Ozarks Foundation in July. The foundation, a local chapter of a national foundation started in 2008, provides scholarships for orthodontic care to individuals who may not otherwise be able to afford it. Dake, an orthodontist, took on the nonprofit out of a desire to serve the counties where he practices, his wife Kim Dake said. She said startup costs for a Smile for a Lifetime Foundation chapter - including operations, printing, advertising and donated services - could reach up to $100,000. The Dakes expect Smile for a Lifetime of the Ozarks Foundation to distribute $75,000 to $100,000 in scholarships this year to recipients chosen by the foundation's 12-member board. Orthodontic Specialists of the Ozarks has offices in West Plains, Mountain Grove and Houston, and Mountain Home and Highland/Hardy, Ark., according to www.osoortho.com.
