C-Street Trading Post

Paul Butler opened C-Street Trading Post at 330 E. Commercial St. on Oct. 22. The store sells groceries, convenience items and tobacco. Butler said he plans to add a section this spring featuring produce items from the C-Street Farmers Market. Butler's grocery experience includes owning and running the Kansas City Store in Kansas City, which closed several years ago, he said. Butler, who is currently the only full-time employee at the store, said startup costs were about $35,000. Hours: 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Phone: (417) 866-5578.

Heroes Coffee Co.

Tim Ferguson and his wife, Amy, purchased Oaxacafé Coffee Co. in April, and reopened it Nov. 6 as Heroes Coffee Co. The company sells small-batch coffee roasts and wholesale café supplies. Ferguson said the Heroes Coffee corporate team will be on the lookout for individuals and organizations acting as heroes locally and around the world, he said, and the company will come alongside them and offer support. All Heroes Coffee cafés will be required to give to their local communities in a tangible way as well, he said. Existing Oaxacafé locations, which are independently owned, have been given the option to change their name to Heroes, Ferguson said. The Fergusons and Craig Wagoner, owner and developer of the Lofts at Jordan Creek, have teamed up to purchase Sinatra's Coffee Gallery, 601 N. National Ave., and re-brand it as Heroes Coffee. Hours: 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Phone: (417) 831-1492.

Doc Rebel's Trading Co.

Doc Rebel's Trading Co., owned by Honkytonk Renovators band member Steve Graham, opened Nov. 6 at 215 W. Commercial St. Graham sells vintage finds and musical instruments at the store, but its purpose is to showcase local artists and musicians. The store is stocked with 200 pieces by local artists, Graham said, and he marked the opening with a live auction of more than 100 art pieces. Eventually, Graham would like to incorporate a no-smoking, non-alcoholic music venue, he said. Graham, who also works in construction, is the store's only employee, and store hours are based on his availability. Currently, the store is open Friday and Saturday.
