Emack & Bolio's
Owner Steve Bingham reopened Emack & Bolio's Nov. 7 at 3521 S. Lone Pine Ave., across from Sequiota Park. Emack & Bolio's came to Springfield in 2004, opening at 216 W. Walnut St. in the Seville Hotel downtown. Bingham moved to 2925 E. Battlefield Road, where it operated until September. He said the eatery, which offers ice cream from the Boston-based Emack & Bolio's franchise, also features smoothies, sandwiches, paninis, homemade soups, salads and fountain drinks. "Having ice cream across from the park was just natural," Bingham said, noting that in the spring he'll add to the restaurant's roughly 10-member staff and extend hours to attract park visitors and those who use the nearby Galloway Trail. Hours: 11 a.m.-7 p.m. daily. Phone: (417) 889-3622.
Edward Jones
Financial adviser Weston Kissee opened a branch office of St. Louis-based Edward Jones on Jan. 7 at 1533 W. Battlefield Road. Kissee holds a finance degree from Drury University and has been with Edward Jones since May 2008, previously working in the office of Stan Jinks. The full-service financial services company handles investments, mutual funds and wealth management. Edward Jones employs 20 financial advisers in 17 Springfield offices, he said, noting that advisers have to meet specific profitability levels before they can open their own firms. Kissee said timing was a big factor in his ability to meet those requirements. "With the market crash, there were a lot of people needing help and attention. ... I was able to really help a lot of people, and business has been great as a result," he said. Kissee, the son of Realtor Tom Kissee, works with a branch office administrator. Hours: 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Phone: (417) 877-1763.
Amberg Entertainment
Amberg Entertainment relocated Dec. 1 to 1311 E. Republic Road. The company, which offers event planning and inflatable rentals, previously operated at 2025 E. Chestnut Expressway. Owner Ted Amberg said the company specializes in large corporate events, but also can orchestrate casino nights and birthday parties. He said the move doubles the company's warehouse space for storing inflatable attractions and games, although the office size on Republic Road is roughly the same size. The move also brings the business closer to clientele, especially in the Ozark, Nixa and Branson markets, he said. The company has seven full-time and roughly 50 part-time employees. The new space, roughly 6,000 square feet and leased from Bill Reed, does not allow Amberg Entertainment to host parties, but Amberg said he is looking for a spot. Hours: 9 a.m.-5 p.m., with event bookings daily. Phone: (417) 886-2442.
