Metro Appliances & MoreMetro Builders Supply changed its name Jan. 1 to Metro Appliances & More, 3252 N. Glenstone Ave. After building its niche with builders and remodelers, company officials say the change is intended to broaden its sales to the general public. In addition to the flagship store in Tulsa, Metro Appliances & More operates in Oklahoma City, Owasso, and Edmond, Okla.; Little Rock, and Springdale, Ark.; Wichita, Kan.; and Joplin. A 10th location is under construction in Jonesboro, Ark. The Springfield Area Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon-cutting Feb. 17 at the Springfield store. American Society of Safety EngineersThe Heart of America Chapter of the American Society of Safety Engineers established a Springfield section in late 2009. The ASSE promotes the advancement of the safety profession and provides information, professional development and networking for members. “It’s for anybody involved in the safety profession who is interested in networking,” said Debora Biggs, executive director at Safety Council of the Ozarks, who works as the chapter’s secretary/treasurer. There are two chapters in Missouri, and Springfield is part of the Heart of America Chapter in Kansas City. ASSE members can join in multiple categories including professional, member, international member, associate and student.
