A New Yarn LLC
A New Yarn LLC, a yarn, knitting and crocheting supply store in Springfield, opened March 10 in the Brentwood Center, 2652 S. Glenstone Ave. Lisa Jobe Ellis, owner of the 2,100-square-foot store, employs one full-time and has “a good friend who has been a wonderful volunteer.” Ellis said knitting is her passion. “I wanted a yarn store closer to my house,” Ellis said, laughing about her reason for opening. “I wanted to create a community with other women and didn’t want to be knitting by myself.” Startup costs were $100,000, said Ellis, who was a stay-at-home mom after earning a degree in elementary education. She grew up watching her grandmother knit and hopes to help current generations create and pass on their own legacies. Ellis said first-time knitters could start for around $35 for needles, yarn and a beginner class. Yarn prices range between $5.30 per skein to $70 per skein of cashmere or with sequins, Ellis said. Hours: 10 a.m.–6 p.m., Monday through Wednesday and Friday; 10 a.m.–8 p.m. Thursday; 10 a.m.–4 p.m. Saturday. Phone: (417) 882-9276.

Outdoor Home Inc.
Outdoor Home Inc. opened a second location March 25 at 404 S. Massey Blvd. in Nixa. The 4,500-square-foot store is one block south of the intersection of state highways 14 and 160 and employs two full-time. Outdoor Home opened in 1995 on St. Louis Street, incorporated in 1998 and moved to its current 8,000-square-foot showroom at 3107 E. Chestnut Expressway. Outdoor Home is leasing the Nixa space from Rook Knight Properties, said owner Bev Schmidt, who would not disclose the terms. Both stores sell gas, charcoal and electric grills and smokers, outdoor furniture, fire pits and patio accessories. Hours: 10 a.m.–6 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Phone: (417) 761-7611.

Premier Salon
Stefanie Wood opened Premier Salon, 210 S. Campbell Ave., on Feb. 26, after buying her former employer’s equipment for an undisclosed price. Wood, a stylist of nearly 10 years including a stint in Salon Suites, worked at The Fringe for owner Dana Schutz since it opened in the same spot in April 2008. Three stylists work at the 1,500-square-foot Premier Salon offering haircut and styling services, including color and texture, eyebrow and lip waxes, and makeup, especially for bridal and prom parties. Prices range from $20 and $40 for men’s and women’s haircuts, respectively, to $105 for a women’s cut and color; waxes are $10, and downtown employees receive $5 off any service, Wood said. Hours: 10 a.m.–5 p.m. Monday, 10 a.m.–6 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 10 a.m.–4 p.m. Saturday. Phone: (417) 873-2227.
