Creative Concepts
Creative Concepts opened March 1 at 3830 S. Lone Pine Ave., Ste. B, south of Sequiota Park offering art lessons and showing local artists’ work, said owner Juli Bland. Bland used savings to open the business in the 700-square-foot building, but she said it was an easy decision. “I was in a high-pressure job for several years, and it was really affecting my health,” she said of her job as office manager with UniFirst Corp., a supplier of uniforms and work clothing in Springfield. “I decided to give it a shot and do what I love.” Classes are in pottery, watercolor, pastels, jewelry, beading, wire wrapping, acrylics, drawing and photography. Children’s classes will be offered this summer, Bland said. Creative Concepts charges artists $40 to $60 a month to display their works. Hours: 10 a.m.–6 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday; noon–5 p.m. Sunday. Phone: (417) 881-8118.

417 Bookkeeping LLC
On May 1, certified bookkeeper Lauren Lawson opened 417 Bookkeeping, a home-based business that provides accounting services. 417 Bookkeeping offers small-business bookkeeping services including accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank reconciliations and financial reporting, said Lawson, who is certified by the American Institute of Professional Bookkeepers. Missouri notary services also are available. “I’ve been working for an architecture firm doing all its bookkeeping,” she said. After her hours were cut, Lawson said she used savings to start the business. “It’s something that I have considered for a while,” she added. “I decided to take the plunge.” Hours: By appointment. Phone: (417) 766-6015.

Phinnco LLC
Randy Phinney opened Phinnco on Jan. 1, providing building maintenance and oversight, and heating and air conditioning services. “We’ll do heating, air, lighting, electrical, minor carpet, whatever needs to be done,” said Phinney, who has 28 years of experience in building maintenance, most recently as Ozarks Technical Community College’s director of facilities. Phinney said he took early retirement to start the business. “I had been intending to do this for three years now,” Phinney said, noting that he has borrowed no money to start the home-based business. One client Phinnco works with is the Gillioz Theatre. “If they have contracts with other entities for customer services, I see to it that that contractor is performing to standards, has the supplies they need, approve bills, and monitor day-to-day operations of building and facilities,” Phinney said. Phinnco has four part-time employees – three in the field and one clerical worker. Hours: As needed. Phone: (417) 838-8620.
