The Supreme Court is scheduled to hear arguments today on whether online retailers must be forced to collect sales taxes.
Currently, the law requires retailers to only collect sales taxes in states where they have a physical presence.
Amazon and Walmart already collect sales taxes on sales made in the 45 states that have a statewide sales tax, according to CNNTech.
The Supreme Court decision, then, would affect mostly affect smaller retailers. One key point is that small and midsize retailers act as third parties via Amazon to sell products.
