Adopt a stream
Volunteer groups can help keep Springfield waterways clean through the city’s new Adopt-A-Stream program launched this month. Participating groups conduct at least three cleanups of a section of the stream they have committed to over the course of a year. Groups are recognized for their efforts with a sign at the stream. Greater Ozarks Audubon Society is the program’s charter participant, having worked on South Creek along Sunset Street between National and Campbell avenues for more than six years. Its work has included removing trash, plant management and other beautification projects. Adopt-A-Stream is a public education and involvement component of the city’s Storm Water Management Program.
