Picked up on Fox

Fox Sports Net Midwest aired the July 21 Springfield Cardinals game at Hammons Field. The live regional broadcast of the Cardinals-Wichita Wranglers matchup pitted the Double-A affiliates of the St. Louis Cardinals and Kansas City Royals. KY3 Sports Director Ned Reynolds reported on the field while veteran play-by-play man Dave Armstrong and former St. Louis Cardinal Andy Benes announced from the TV booth. FSN Midwest reaches more than 4.3 million homes in six states, however, the game was not shown in the Springfield market due to territorial restrictions.

The price of downtown

Ever wonder what it costs to buy downtown real estate? Well, $450,000 could get someone into a 5,300-square-foot building off the square. According to Rankin Co., 301 Park Central East is for sale at that price or for rent at $4,000 a month, triple net. The building was most recently used by Adult Tendercare and was formerly 3 Sisters Dress Shop. The property just hit the market; it was last acquired by SWDFOR LLC in September 2003. According to the Greene County Assessor’s Web site, the 1937-built building appraises for $167,000.

Davenport withdraws

Springfield Laser Lindsay Davenport withdrew from World Team Tennis play due to injury July 18, one day before a match in which she was scheduled to participate. It was Davenport’s only home match of the season. “It’s very disappointing because I love playing World Team Tennis and I was looking forward to playing in Springfield and Houston this summer,” Davenport said in a WTT news release. “I hope to get the opportunity to return next year to WTT.” Davenport said she injured her back during the recent Wimbledon finals. Lasers officials, who had been selling tickets for Davenport’s match at double the normal price, apologized for the late notice. Ticket holders were given full or partial refunds or first rights for the marquee game next season.

Branson preservation

Downtown Branson Main Street Association is attempting to preserve Branson’s past with the Branson History Museum and Cultural Center. The DBMA office currently houses the museum. With the city’s blessing, the DBMA earlier this year appointed a nine-member advisory committee. Those interested in contributing artifacts to the museum or more information should contact Gayla Roten at (417) 334-1548.

Slice of Nice

Breast Cancer Foundation of the Ozarks has reached a financial milestone. In its 7th year of operation, the local nonprofit has distributed more than a quarter million dollars to those with breast cancer and their families. Financial assistance for mortgage payments and rent comprise 55 percent of the $250,450 awarded, followed by children’s needs and utility and car payments. BCFO has served women ranging in age from 25 to 78 and their 185 families in 20 southwest Missouri counties.
