Anyone who's thought the water tasted funny recently is not alone City Utilities has been responding to several customer inquiries about odd-tasting water. Sources at CU say that the taste of water sometimes changes during warm weather. Rest assured, though, that while the taste might be a bit off, the water remains totally safe to drink. Meanwhile, the water-treatment process has been modified to address the taste issue. |ret||ret||tab|

Brian Fogle, long-time downtown advocate and vice president of community development at Great Southern Bank, received the second annual Pinnacle Award from the Downtown Springfield Association. This award, appropriately, honors individuals who have been influential in the redevelopment of Springfield's downtown. Fogle now serves on the Urban Districts Alliance, the Good Community Committee, the Jordan Valley Park Advisory Committee and the Springfield Finance and Development Corporation. |ret||ret||tab|

The Republic Area Chamber of Commerce is now seeking nominees for its 2002 Member of the Year Award. Businesses that are members of the Republic Area Chamber of Commerce are eligible for the award; it is not open to individuals. The Springfield Public Schools Foundation Scramble will begin with a 1:30 p.m. shotgun start Sept. 23 at Silo Ridge Golf & Country Club. The registration fee for the four-person scramble is $150 per person, which includes green fees, a cart, a tee package, lunch and beverages. Flight prizes will be awarded. Proceeds benefit the Springfield Public Schools Foundation, which raises, manages and distributes private investment to benefit students in Springfield Public Schools. |ret||ret||tab|

The ninth annual Emerald Evening fund-raiser for Springfield Catholic Schools will be held at 7 p.m. Sept. 21 in the White River Banquet Room at Bass Pro Shops Outdoor World, 1935 S. Campbell Ave. Tickets to the event are $100 per person. Dinner, dancing a live auction and a raffle for a 2002 Ford Explorer Sport are part of the evening. Tickets for the raffle are sold separately for $75 each and only 375 tickets will be sold. Proceeds from the event will fund technology for Springfield Catholic Schools.
