QUILTIN' TIME
Get out your heirloom quilts! The History Museum for Springfield-Greene County is hosting a Quilt Appraisal Day 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Sept. 12, at the museum, which is located on the third floor of City Hall, 830 Boonville Ave. During the event, Kathy Kansier, a certified quilt appraiser, will examine antique, vintage and contemporary quilts. She also will appraise wearable art pieces.
Tickets for the 30-minute appraisal sessions are limited, and they are available for $35 each, with all proceeds to benefit the History Museum. Each appraisal will include an item description size, condition, workmanship, provenance an appraisal value and two photographs of the item for insurance purposes. Thousand Hills Golf Resort and the Mickey Gilley Theatre in Branson are hosting a golf tournament and a carnival to benefit Shriners Hospitals for Children, which provide orthopedic and burn-treatment care for children under 18 years of age at no charge.
The carnival will be held Aug. 25 and the tournament will follow Aug. 26. Both events will be held at Thousand Hills Golf Resort.
Admission to the carnival is free; scheduled activities include presentations featuring the Shriners' clowns, games and various contests.
The golf tournament is a four-person scramble with four flights. Tee times begin at 7 a.m.
Entry fees are $100 per player, which includes golf, complimentary food and beverage during play, a steak dinner after round and an 8 p.m. show at the Mickey Gilley Theatre.
Guest tickets to the tournament are available for $20, and those include food, beverages and show tickets. For more information, contact Barry Storie, PGA golf professional, or Michele Coss, golf course administrator, at Thousand Hills Golf Resort.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Ozarks will hold its third annual Big Deal Auction beginning at 5:30 p.m. Aug. 27 at Remington's, 1655 W. Republic Road. The event features both a live and silent auction, live entertainment by the Wise Guise, and a barbecue dinner catered by the Rib Inn.
The auction will include big-ticket items, celebrity and sports memorabilia and one-of-a-kind art.
Tickets to the event are available for $20 each and can be purchased at all O'Reilly Auto Parts locations or at the Big Brothers/Big Sisters Office, 1675 E. Seminole St., Ste. J.
Proceeds from the event will benefit more than 300 area children who receive support from the services provided by Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Ozarks.
