BEER MONEY
Did you know that the beer industry provides jobs for 65,700 Missouri residents and generates more than $1.6 billion in wages? The National Beer Wholesalers Association and the Beer Institute tout those facts from research conducted on their behalf by Steve L. Barsby and Associates. Missouri has approximately 22 brewers, 71 beer wholesalers and 12,500 retailers. Nationally, the beer industry employs approximately 2.5 million Americans and provides nearly $60 billion in wages.
BREAST CANCER LICENSE PLATE
Missouri Gov. Bob Holden signed into law legislation that creates the Missouri Women's Council Breast Cancer Awareness license plate. The plates, which are pink, will help raise funds to pay for breast cancer services for people who can't afford them. Applications for the special plates, and information on how to purchase them, are available online at www. womenscouncil.org/licenseplate.html
NEW RAMP
The new east ramp at historic City Hall is completed and available for public use. Removal of the temporary ramp on the west side of City Hall is now under way. The new ramp is part of a larger project that includes exterior and interior improvements.
SASSAFRAS
The annual Sassafras Festival, presented by the Rogersville Area Chamber of Commerce, will be held Sept. 14-15 at the Logan-Rogersville Upper Elementary/ Middle School campus, located at Highway 60 and B in Rogersville. In its eighth year, the event features vendors, crafters and entertainment. Festival hours are 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Sept. 14 and 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Sept. 15. STONE-COLD SOBER
The College of the Ozarks in Point Lookout was ranked No. 12 among a list of stone-cold sober colleges by the Princeton Review. This is the third year C of O has made the list. Last year, the school ranked No. 14. Other schools on the list this year include the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado, Cooper Union in New York City and Brigham Young University in Utah.
SLICE OF NICE
The Kickapoo High School PTSA's annual Craft Bazaar and Silent Auction will be held 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Sept. 14 at Kickapoo High School, 3710 S. Jefferson Ave. The event, which features arts, crafts, food and an auction, is the only fundraiser for the Kickapoo High School PTSA. Admission and parking are free.
