Drury University is one of 13 honorees selected by the Policy Center on the First Year of College as one of the "Institutions of Excellence in the First Year." The designation recognizes institutions' efforts to help students make the transition to college life. Drury's first-year experience revolves around a course called Alpha Seminar, which explores what it means to be an American and develops students' writing, critical thinking and oral communications skills. Drury was selected from 130 two- and four-year institutions of higher education. |ret||ret||tab|

PUBLIC SERVANTS' VOICE|ret||ret||tab|

A recently launched organization, the Missouri Association of State Employees, is designed to enhance the value of state employment by providing a professional voice in the Missouri Statehouse. MASE is similar to organizations in more than a dozen other states, and each promotes quality, integrity and the interests among employees of the state of Missouri. It also offers benefits not typically provided by the state benefits plan, including vision lenses and frames, legal and financial planning services and chiropractic services. Membership in MASE is voluntary and open to any of the more than 65,000 employees of the state of Missouri, for a monthly $12 fee. Enrollment forms and additional information is available online at www.moase.com.|ret||ret||tab|

SLICE OF NICE|ret||ret||tab|

The local Habitat for Humanity and Habitat for Humanity ReStore are taking a can-do attitude as the organization competes against 14 other Habitat affiliates to collect the most aluminum cans. The winner will receive $50,000 to build a home for a deserving family. But time is running out. Habitat has until Dec. 31 to collect the most cans. The organization already has collected more than 8,000 pounds of aluminum, which puts them in fourth place. The organization is asking local individuals, businesses and organizations to help them make a final push to get them into the No. 1 slot by the end of this month. To help call the local Habitat for Humanity office, or the ReStore. |ret||ret||tab|
