SEASONAL CHANGE

The Ozarks Stream and Fountain in Jordan Valley Park has been turned off for the winter to prevent potential damage to the water pipes and slippery conditions in the area near the water feature. But there is still some winter fun in store at the park. Beginning Nov. 22, Jordan Valley Park will be decorated for the holiday season Festival of Lights, which is being held this year at Jordan Valley Park and Jordan Valley Ice Park.

CANDIDATE SEARCH

Nominations are being accepted for the January 2003 election of Greene County University Outreach and Extension Council members.

University Outreach and Extension offers educational programs addressing high-priority areas including agriculture, horticulture, nutrition, consumer and family economics, business and industry, community development, and youth development. Nominees will be contacted for their permission to be placed on the ballot. Nominations for the seven open positions must be submitted prior to Nov. 25 and can be made by calling the Greene County University Outreach and Extension office.

PATRIOTIC

The city of Branson received the Missouri American Legion's "Most Patriotic City in America" award during the POW Network's sixth annual banquet, held at the Chateau on the Lake.

According to Gary Reno, grand director for POW/MIA, the award has never been presented to a Missouri city with fewer than 1 million residents, but the city of Branson garnered a unanimous vote from the nomination committee.

Said Branson Mayor Lou Schaefer of the award, "We pay tribute to our military veterans because it's the right thing to do. As the greatest nation in the world, we need to keep their legacy alive for present and future generations."
