VALENTINE FUN
Springfield Little Theatre's annual Valentine's Day Dinner and Entertainment fundraiser will begin at 7 p.m. Feb. 14 at the Discovery Center, 438 E. St. Louis St. Attendees will be able to see Discovery Center Exhibits, including the new "Traces of Time" display from the San Francisco Exploratorium. The evening also includes a dinner catered by Clary's, a glass of champagne, a Valentine's Day portrait by Mignard's Photography, strolling entertainers, a cash bar, a gift emporium featuring romantic gifts and a dance. Tickets to the event are $90 per couple, and they are available 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Friday at the SLT Box Office, 311 E. Walnut.
FIREWOOD BUNDLES
The city of Springfield is offering bundles of firewood for $4 per bundle or $8 for three bundles through the city's Tree Care Program. Proceeds from the sale of the firewood supplement the city's Tree Reforestation Program. Selling the bundles also provides a beneficial re-use option for waste wood generated by the Tree Care Program. Firewood can be purchased at the city's Lone Pine Recycling Center at 3020 S. Lone Pine Ave.
SLICE OF NICE
The 24th Annual Greater Bolivar Polar Bear Run is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Feb. 15 on Pike Street next to Southwest Baptist University's Plaster Stadium in Bolivar. The event benefits the Bolivar Area YMCA. Pre-registration for the 10K, 5K and 1-mile events ends at 5 p.m. Feb. 13. Registration forms are available online at www.ymcaspringfield.org, at Springfield Family YMCA locations, or at the Bolivar Area YMCA.
TWICE OF NICE
Bet on Youth 2003, a casino night and art auction fund-raiser for the Boys & Girls Club of Springfield, is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Jan. 31 at Sterling's Night Club. Art and gift certificates for products and services from area businesses will be available at the live and silent auctions. There will be food and live music at the event. The event raises money for programs benefiting at-risk youth, with proceeds going to the Boys & Girls Club. Tickets are $75 and are available at Clear Channel Communications at 1856 S. Glenstone Ave., or the Boys & Girls Club of Springfield, 1300 N. Boonville Ave.
