With more than 40,000 pounds of aluminum cans collected in a six-month period, the Springfield Habitat for Humanity ReStore won third place against 14 other Habitats in the United States, which were competing to win a $50,000 grant to fund the construction of a new home. Grand Island, Neb., finished first and Webster, La., finished second. With the can drive, the ReStore generated $16,000 in revenue from the cans. For its efforts. Springfield will receive an additional $8,000 making the grand total earned locally more than $24,000 half the funds it needs to build a house.
