Empowering women

"Empowering women toward their fullest potential" is the theme for the fourth annual Women's Day Symposium. The event will be held 8 a.m-4 p.m. March 25 at the OTC Information Commons West, 1001 E. Brower. Cost is $39 per person and includes lunch. More than a dozen women speakers will lead workshops throughout the day. Deborah Cox, author of "When is Anger Good for You?" and a licensed psychologist and assistant professor at Southwest Missouri State University, is the keynote speaker. Maximum impact

Ridgecrest Baptist Church will hold a Maximum Impact simulcast seminar for area business leaders from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. March 28 at the church, which is located at 2210 W. Republic Road. Ridgecrest will cover part of the conference's $129 ticket price; cost will be $65 for a single ticket, $60 each for two through five tickets, $55 each for six through 10 tickets, and $50 for 11 or more tickets. Lunch is included. Dr. John Maxwell will host the seminar and will be joined by speakers Ken Blanchard and Joe Gibbs, former NFL coach and NASCAR team owner. The event, which will originate in Atlanta, will be broadcast live to more than 700 churches across North America.

The seminar's focus is on leadership, and it is designed to equip churches as resources for business leaders and to build a bridge to the business community.

Slice of nice

Tickets are available for the Paradise in March fundraising event for Reed Middle School. The event, sponsored by the Downtown Optimist Club, will be from 5:30-8:30 p.m. March 20 at the Rasta Grill, 319 W. Walnut St. A silent auction will be a part of the night to help raise money for area youth.

Twice of nice

Mercy Regional Health Foundation will present the 19th annual "St. John's Blast From the Past," featuring sights and sounds from the 1950s through 1980s. Tickets are available for shows at 7:30 p.m. March 21, 22 and 28 at the John Q. Hammons Trade and Convention Center in Joplin. Ticket prices are $20 each or $200 for a table of 10. Ticket information is available by calling 417-625-2266. Proceeds from the event will help support the foundation and fund health programs and service in the area.
