Resort request
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has received a request for a limited motel/resort lease in the Shell Knob area of Table Rock Lake from James Development Company. The proposed lease would allow two, 12-slip boat docks and support facilities to be placed on government-owned property for use by overnight guests of the Sunset Timbers Resort, now being constructed on adjoining private property. The location of the proposed docks is in the Thompson Hollow area of Table Rock Lake in Stone County. Interested parties can provide comments, objections or suggestions related to this request by sending them to: Operations Manager, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, 4600 State Highway 165, Ste. A, Branson 65615. Written comments will be accepted until May 17.
Bike to Work
Springbike, Ozark Greenways and City Utilities Transit are encouraging local residents to participate in the Bike-to-Work Week Challenge May 12-16. Participants may take their bicycles on the city buses and ride to any Ozark Greenways bike trail, or just save gas and ride a bus to anywhere in the city. Passengers with bicycles can ride the buses free during Bike-to-Work Week. Ozark Greenways also will give free one-year memberships to anyone who bikes or buses to work at least three times during the week. For more information, call Ozark Greenways at 417-864-2015.
Tree City USA
For the 18th year, the city of Springfield has been named a Tree City USA, and it also has received a Tree City USA Growth Award for demonstrating progress in its community forestry program in education and public relations, community-wide tree events and continuing education for tree managers. The National Arbor Day Foundation sponsors the Tree City USA Program in cooperation with the National Association of State Foresters and the USDA Forest Service. A Tree City USA community must have a tree board/department, a tree-care ordinance, a comprehensive community forestry program and an Arbor Day observance.
Slice of Nice
The 50th Binnie Clements Guild Spring Homes Tour will be held 10 a.m.-7 p.m. May 7 at four homes in Highland Springs. Tickets to the homes tour are $15 and can be purchased at several locations, including Dillons, Summer Fresh Stores, and Laura's Cards and Gifts. Free shuttles to the tour will be provided from the Second Baptist Church parking lot at 3111 E. Battlefield Road, and tickets to the tour are available after 11 a.m. at the church on the day of the tour. A luncheon and style show will be held 11 a.m.-2 p.m. in conjunction with the event. Separate tickets are required for the luncheon, and are available for $15 each until May 1. All proceeds from the tours and the luncheon will benefit children's charities in the Ozarks.
