Kids to camp

The Sertoma Club of Springfield presented the Boys and Girls Club with a check for $10,000 to send 87 children to Kids Across America Camp. The money, raised during Wingapalooza 2002 at Remington's, will provide food, housing, transportation and insurance for children and staff this summer. Plans are under way for Wingapalooza 2003 to be held in November.

Shutterbugs

Photographs are being accepted until July 7 for "My Missouri: Photos that Define the Show-Me State." Winning photos in the contest will appear in the 2003-2004 edition of the Official State Manual. Good deeds

St. Louis-based Gitana Productions seeks nominations of people who perform extraordinary deeds for others without regard to race or nationality. Nominations for "Deeds Beyond Race: Extraordinary/Ordinary Person of the Year" will be accepted until June 20 and should include a one- to two-page essay on why the nominee should receive the award. Urban Districts Alliance will hold its second annual Center City Scramble golf tournament June 23 at Springfield Golf & Country Club to benefit UDA programs and services to support Springfield's center city. The Child Advocacy Center Inc. will host a murder-mystery dinner June 22 at Highland Springs, followed by a golf tournament June 23. Proceeds go toward services the center provides to children in 19 southwest Missouri counties. The dinner is $50 per plate and the golf tournament is $200 per player.
