Zooquarium news

The Wonders of Wildlife Zooquarium, 500 W. Sunshine St., is hosting its first Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition. "Caves: A Fragile Wilderness" will be on display until Aug. 1 and again from Aug. 5-12 in the zooquarium's upper lobby. It features 39 color photographs taken by 23 National Speleological Society members. The photos are presented in four sections: entrances, passages, formations and life. The museum is open 9 a.m.-6 p.m. daily, and information is available online at www.wondersofwildlife.org.

Highway stripes

To improve safety on Missouri's 32,000-mile state highway system, the Missouri Department of Transportation is adding center stripes on all paved roads and edge stripes on all roads carrying more than 1,000 vehicles per day. Previously, MoDOT put center stripes only on roads carrying more than 225 vehicles, and edge stripes on roads carrying more than 1,700 cars each day. The changes will add 5,400 more miles of center stripes and 3,600 more miles of edge stripes. Crews are applying the stripes as weather permits, but all are scheduled for completion this year.

Slice of Nice

The Ozarks Area Community Action Corporation is seeking donation of good used vehicles for its Wheels to Work Program. The program repairs and donates vehicles to low-income families that need transportation to achieve employment or educational goals. Since the program began, 30 families have been provided with transportation. Donated vehicles should be no more than 10 years old and in good condition. Car parts, repair services, assessments and estimates for repair costs also are needed. All donations are tax deductible and OACAC will provide receipts. For additional information, call 417-873-3391.
