Small-business awards
Resources for Missouri Inc. is accepting applications for its small-business awards, which will be presented to nine Missouri small businesses. New and existing businesses may apply for the awards. Honorees will be selected by a panel of judges based on their value to the states economy. For the awards, a small business is defined as one that has less than $2.5 million net annual income and a net worth of less than $7.5 million.

Business greats
Drury Universitys Breech School of Business is seeking nominations for its second class of inductees into the Breech School Hall of Fame. The Hall of Fame honors Drury alumni and former faculty members whose leadership, integrity and professional conduct make a positive impact in their communities.
Last years inductees were Ernest R. Breech, former chairman of the board and chief executive officer of Ford Motor Company; John L. Morris, founder and president of Bass Pro Shops Inc., and Carol Junge Loomis, financial journalist and member of Fortune magazines board of editors.
The deadline for applications is Nov. 1. Nominees cannot have attended or taught at Drury within the past 10 years. Applications can be submitted online at http://business.drury.edu, or they can be obtained by calling 417873-7508.
Remembering Gary Gibson
On Oct. 7, a chanticleer pear tree was dedicated to the late Mayor Pro Tem Gary Gibson in Jordan Valley Park, near the upper east plaza of the park.
Prior to his work on Springfield City Council, Gibson served on the citys Special Business District Board and the Personnel Board. He was elected to General Seat B in April 1997 and re-elected in April 2001. He also filled an unexpired term of council in 1994-95. He served as mayor pro tem from 1999 until his death Oct. 25, 2002.
Slice of Nice
The Urban Districts Alliance and the Missouri Restaurant Association are presenting the Savor Downtown fund-raising event 5:30-9 p.m. Oct. 14.
A progressive dinner at participating restaurants will provide participants with the opportunity to taste some of downtowns finest appetizers, finger foods, desserts and more. The participating restaurants are Agrario, Izumi Hatake Sushi Grill, Milles, Mud House, Mud Lounge, Rasta Grill, South Ave. Pizza, Springfield Brewing Co., The Cookie and Tower Club. Tickets may be purchased at participating restaurants or by calling UDA at 417-831-6200.
Tickets are $20 each, and part of the evenings proceeds will be used for scholarships.
