Salute kickoff
The Salute to Construction Kick-Off mixer and proclamation ceremony will be held at 4:30 p.m. Oct. 28 at the new Expo Center in Jordan Valley Park. The annual Salute, which runs through Nov. 6, includes career days speakers at area middle and high schools, and will conclude with the annual awards banquet Nov. 6. The banquet begins with social hour at 5 p.m. followed by dinner at 6:30 p.m. at the Clarion Hotel, 3333 S. Glenstone. Tickets are available for $17 and must be purchased by Nov. 3 by calling the Springfield Contractors Association office. Kirk Elmquist will serve as master of ceremonies during the awards banquet. Honors to be presented include SCAs Developer of the Year Award, scholarships and special awards from several organizations in the construction industry.
Older adult initiative
The Community Foundation of the Ozarks has launched its Older Adult Initiative. The foundation has issued a request for proposals for the development and implementation of a comprehensive effort to increase the awareness of and access to services available to older adults in the metropolitan Springfield area. The board of directors of CFO and the Older Adult Initiative Committee will give strong consideration to projects that include agency collaboration, project sustainability and long-range impact, leveraging of other monies and in-kind resources, participation in the ongoing Seniorlink dialogue and a thoughtful evaluation component. CFO will consider three-year projects and requests for up to $100,000.
Stop-arm violations
As of Oct. 1, the Springfield Police Department reported that it has investigated 81 reports of stop-arm violations reported to the SPD by Springfield R-XII School District bus drivers since the first day of school. Of the 81 reports: 19 were forwarded to the Greene County Sheriffs Department because of the location of the reported incidents; 12 were determined not to have been violations, or the license information was incorrect or incomplete; 21 are still being investigated by the departments traffic section; and a total of 29 citations have been issued to drivers for failing to stop for a school bus stop arm, based on the information provided by the bus drivers.
Slice of Nice
The Fall Into Art exhibit is being held through the month of October, 11 a.m.-11 p.m. Monday through Saturday at The Cookie, 1129 E. Walnut Street. Following the exhibit, a live auction will be held at 7 p.m. Nov. 1, with proceeds benefiting Family Violence Center. During October, admission to the exhibit is free; an admission fee of $20 will be charged for the auction, which also includes entertainment and refreshments. More than 20 local and regional artists are featured in the exhibit and auction.
