Sheep and Wool Day 2004 will be held 1-6 p.m. June 13 at the Gray-Campbell Farmstead in Nathanael Greene Park, 2400 S. Scenic. Shearing with hand-crank shears will be demonstrated at the 1800s-era farmstead. Wool spinning, dyeing, knitting, weaving, felting and other fiber arts also will be demonstrated. Tours of the farmstead buildings will be available, as well as horse-and-buggy rides, dancing, games and door prizes. There also will be a special children's area for craft demonstrations. The city of Springfield, Hometown Merchants Association and Noble & Associates have begun the next phase of the "Drive Responsibly" traffic safety education campaign. This phase, "Let Them Have Their Way," focuses specifically on failure to yield. Participating Hometown Merchants Association grocers will hand out 70,000 grocery bags with the safety message. Fliers also will be distributed and signs will be placed at the entrance of local Price Cutter and Summer Fresh stores. SenioRx program|ret||ret||tab|
The re-enrollment deadline for current members of the Missouri SenioRx program has been extended to July 30 after the program's 15-member commission determined that members may have not received their re-enrollment applications in a timely enough manner to meet the state-statute-imposed Feb. 28 deadline. The deadline extension does not apply to new applicants or those who previously applied but did not qualify.|ret||ret||tab|

The sixth annual Bass Pro Conservation 10K and 2-mile Family Fun Run will begin at 8 a.m. May 15 at the main entrance of Bass Pro Shops Outdoor World. Registration for the event is $15 in advance or $20 the day of the race for adults. For children, registration is $5 at any time. All proceeds will benefit Ozark Greenways. Frank Shorter, Olympic marathon gold and silver medalist, will run in the race and sign autographs afterward. The National Association of Letter Carriers' Annual Food Drive will be held May 8. The association asks postal patrons to leave nonperishable food items in or near their mailboxes for letter carriers to pick up as they deliver the mail. This is the 12th year for the local branch of the association to participate in the food drive. Items donated in Springfield will benefit Salvation Army, The Kitchen, Grand Oaks Mission and Victory Mission.|ret||ret||tab|
