National Alliance for the Mentally Ill of Southwest Missouri has announced the availability of $27,000 in Neighborhood Assistance Program tax credits. Redirecting money through the program provides participating taxpayers with a way to reduce their state and federal taxes, and, for NAMI, helps ensure that adequate programs and services are being provided to southwest Missouri children and adults who are affected by mental illness. |ret||ret||tab|

The 47th annual Nixa Sucker Day Celebration will be held May 14-15 in Nixa. The parade will depart at 6:30 p.m. May 14 from Nixa Junior High School. The Sucker Day Fish Fry will be held May 15 on Main Street, with food served from noon until the food is gone. There will be an amateur talent show May 15. It's been 100 years since the first settlements along the railroad, Turkey Creek and White River, which eventually became the city of Hollister. Hollister is having its first Founder's Day Celebration 10 a.m.-4 p.m. at the historic train depot at 294 Esplanade St. in downtown Hollister. Activities will include a salute to past mayors, a tribute to the families of early settlers in the area, music, food and games. |ret||ret||tab|

AIDS Project of the Ozarks' first Red Ribbon Ride, "Cycling for Change," will be held May 22. A 10-mile fun ride will begin at 10 a.m.; 30- and 50-mile rides will begin at 8 a.m., with all rides beginning and ending at Galloway Station Bar and Grill, 4211 S. Lone Pine. Food and drinks will be provided by Galloway Station after the ride. Riders who gather donations of $100 or more will be entered into a drawing for prizes. The third annual Red Hat Luncheon to benefit Breast Cancer Foundation of the Ozarks will be held at 11:30 a.m. at University Plaza Convention Center. A patron's party will be held at 10:30 a.m. in the hotel lobby. Ladies over the age of 50 are encouraged to wear red hats and purple attire; those under 50 are to wear pink hats and lavender attire. Humorist and author Cecilia Grimes will be the featured speaker. Tickets to the event are $30 for the luncheon only, and $50 for the patrons' party and lunch.
