A 17-foot bronze statue depicting Southwest Missouri State University's public affairs mission will be cast and placed on the SMSU campus in 2005 the school's centennial celebration year. The SMSU Board of Governors in February approved a $30,000 contract with artist Jim Hill to design and cast the statue. The statue will show a graduate in a cap and gown, standing on a pedestal and gazing at a globe she holds over her head. The statue will be placed on a concrete base just east of Strong Hall's outdoor amphitheater. The total project cost, which will come from private donations through the SMSU Foundation, will be between $125,000 and $130,000. |ret||ret||tab|

Baseball forecast|ret||ret||tab|

Former St. Louis Cardinals and Kansas City Royals manager Whitey Herzog will be the featured speaker during the Major League Baseball Forecast Luncheon, which will be held at 11:15 a.m. April 30 at Missouri Sports Hall of Fame, 3861 E. Stan Musial Drive. The event will be presented by Ozarks Coca-Cola/Dr Pepper Bottling Company. A live sports auction and buffet luncheon will be part of the event. Individual tickets are $35. Mudhouse is offering a series of tea tastings every other Saturday in April and May, with the next tasting to begin at 3 p.m. April 17 at Mudhouse, 323 South Ave. The tasting series, "Exploring Tea," will include discussions of health benefits and tasting of different types of teas. Branson City Clerk Sandra Williams was selected as the 2004 Outstanding City Clerk of the Year by the Missouri City Clerks Finance Officers Association. Williams, who has served as Branson's City Clerk since 1989, also served as the city's finance director until 1996. |ret||ret||tab|

The Third Annual Administrative Professionals Day/Celebrity Fashion Show to benefit New Hope will be held April 19 at the Tower Club. There will be two seatings for the event at 11 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. The cost is $20 per person or $180 for a table of 10. Local people will model fashions for the event. New Hope provides support and assistance to women with gynecologic cancers and their families. Services include mentoring, support group meetings and nonmedical financial assistance.
