For a limited time this summer, Jordan Valley Ice Park is using one of its rinks for extreme sports. According to a news release, every summer one sheet of ice is taken down to concrete for multipurpose use. Ramps, rails, jumps and quarter pipes for rollerbladers and skateboarders have been put in place. General admission is $3. Front-yard parking|ret||ret||tab|

The city of Springfield reinitiated front-yard parking enforcement June 28. The Springfield Police Department's Parking Services and Community Services officers will issue front-yard parking citations at their discretion, regardless of whether a citizen complaint has been filed. Citations for front-yard parking carry a $25 fine. |ret||ret||tab|

Front-yard parking is prohibited between the front of a house and the street unless the vehicle is parked in a legally established driveway. Corner lots are deemed to have two front yards. Exceptions include and accommodating handicapped individuals. |ret||ret||tab|

Einstein on Ice|ret||ret||tab|

Einstein on Ice, the traditional summer fundraiser for Discovery Center of Springfield, will be held 10 a.m.-5 p.m. July 10 at the center, 438 E. St. Louis. Proceeds from the event, during which visitors will have access to all exhibits and will be able to enjoy as much Andy's Frozen Custard as they desire, will help fund the construction of a live beehive exhibit. A new show, "Dinosaurs: Beyond Extinction!" will be previewed at the event, which will feature bee education exhibits by the Beekeepers Association of the Ozarks and experiments related to freezing with liquid nitrogen and dry ice. Tickets for Einstein on Ice are $7 for nonmembers of all ages and $3 for members of all ages. A new feature for this year's event is a joint ticket package with the Springfield-Greene County Park Board. Joint tickets provide admission to the fund-raiser and an admissions and skate rental pass for Jordan Valley Ice Park. Joint tickets are $12 for nonmembers and $8 for members. The second annual Ice Cream Chill-out to benefit the Spay Neuter Assistance Program Inc. will be held 10 a.m.-2 p.m. July 17 at Rogersville Community Park. SNAP offers low-cost spay/neuter certificates to pet owners who cannot afford the procedures for their pets. Volunteers are now selling chances for Black Angus Bingo for $5 each. In this game, participants can "rent" 5-foot square plots in a 120-by-240-foot arena. Sometime around noon, a well-fed cow will be turned loose, and the person whose plot receives a "deposit" will receive a $500 cash prize. Admission is $2 in advance and $3 at the gate.
