Junior Golf Week
The Heart of the Ozarks Junior Golf Foundation is presenting the first Junior Golf Week June 28-July 5.
Every golf course in the state is asked to conduct a junior event during the week. At 1 p.m. June 30, Rivercut Golf Course in Springfield is offering a free drive, pitch and putt contest for golfers ages 7 to 17, with boys' and girls' age divisions.
At 4 p.m. June 30, John Anselmo, Tiger Woods' amateur coach, will conduct a free junior golf clinic.
Following the clinic, Bass Pro Shop's hot air balloon will drop golf balls in a Closest-to-Hole contest, with proceeds to support junior golf.
The events are presented by the Betty Allison Junior Golf Course and the Springfield-Greene County Park Board. For more information, call Rick Grayson at 417-823-7888.

Slice of Nice
The 2004 Children's Miracle Network Telethon netted $1,501,226 for sick and injured children in the Ozarks, according to a news release from CoxHealth. The telethon was televised June 5-6 by KY3. Children's Miracle Network of CoxHealth is a nonprofit organization that provides financial assistance for area children. The telethon proceeds also benefit Children's Miracle Network projects such as the CARE Mobile, and help fund medical equipment and educational programs. All of the money raised locally stays in the Ozarks.
Twice of Nice
Kathy Staudt, chairperson of the 2004 Sertoma Chili Cook-Off held Jan. 31, presented a check for $100,000 to Boys & Girls Clubs Director Pat Gartland June 23 during the Boys & Girls Clubs board meeting. The cook-off has long been a fundraiser for the Boys & Girls Clubs. Money from the 2004 event will help pay for a new teen center that is to be built at the Henderson Unit on Boonville.
Approximately 8,000 people attended the 2004 event. Planning already is under way for the 2005 Chili Cook-Off, which will be held Feb. 12.
