Ducks headed north?
If the Springeld-Ozark Ducks' disconnected telephone line (417-581-BUNT) is any indication, it appears the team is packing its bags. The Christian County Headliner has reported that Frontier League ofcials have given Ducks management until Nov. 15 to decide the team's fate. Team ofcials have said a move to a Detroit suburb is a possibility. Calls to Price Cutter Park owner Horn Chen and his American Sports Entertainment ofces were not returned by press time.
Second helping
After a 12-week trial run this summer, Dash & Dine returned to downtown Springeld Oct. 26. The free service paid for by participating restaurants shuttles center city business folk to their lunch spots and back to work. A second route was added to include Hammons Tower, U.S. Bank and Drury University stops. The original route to Springeld's government plaza continues. Fisk Limousines provides the shuttles, which run 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Wednesdays through Jan. 19. This time around, 13 downtown restaurants sponsor Dash & Dine for $25 a week.
Rollback Tuesdays
As part of a class project for students at Victory Trade School's hospitality marketing class, Cook's Kettle Restaurant at 1715 N. Boonville is offering Rollback Tuesdays. During lunch, 11 a.m.-1p.m. each Tuesday in November, restaurant patrons can order specials that appeared on the old Crank's Drug Store menu and pay the original price. Items include a 59-cent Crank's burger, 69-cent Crank's club sandwich and $1.35 chicken fried steak special. The He-Man salad sells for 80 cents, and desserts are 15 cents or 25 cents. Buffet, soup and salad will remain available during the special lunch hours, for $4 per person.
International visitors
Students in Free Enterprise teams from the University of Zimbabwe, Malaysia and Morocco visited Drury University Oct. 31-Nov. 7. Each team participated in a competition called Duel in the Ozarks, along with local SIFE teams from Drury, Southwest Missouri State University and Southwest Baptist University. Duel in the Ozarks gives hypothetical case studies about families in nancial distress for which teams are to create reasonable, workable, and creative solutions within 36 hours. The visiting students also participated in a panel discussion at Drury and met with students at Central High School and Pipkin Middle School. They also visited Bass Pro and had several opportunities to learn about American business and cultural diversity.
