The Breech School of Business at Drury University is accepting nominations for its third class of inductees into the Breech School Hall of Fame. Eligible nominees are Drury University alumni or faculty who have made positive and significant marks in the field of business. Applications can be submitted online at http://breech.drury.edu. Nominees must have attended or taught at Drury within the past 10 years. The deadline is Oct. 15.

Candidates will be judged on their exemplary leadership, professional conduct consistent with the mission of the university and the Breech School of Business, and their sense of urgency for improving their communities.

Making each vote count

The public is invited to attend “Be Sure Your Vote Counts,” a League of Women Voters program that will be held 7-9 p.m. Sept. 23 in the community room at National Avenue Christian Church, 1515 S. National.

Two program panelists, Greene County Clerk Richard Struckhoff and local attorney Craig Hosmer, will speak and take questions from attendees. Struckhoff will talk about the Help America Vote Act as implemented in Greene County and looking toward new voting technologies. Hosmer will address the challenge of state implementation of HAVA. League of Women Voters service cochairs also will describe voter registration projects in Greene County.

Endowment

The lobby of YMCA’s G. Pearson Ward Branch at 417 S. Jefferson has been named in honor of Marjory Stiles, a former employee who died May 8 after a long battle with advanced ovarian cancer. Stiles worked at the front desk at the Ward Branch for 33 years. Also in honor of Stiles, a fund in her name has been established as part of the endowment of Springfield Family YMCA.

Proceeds will provide underprivileged youth the opportunity to participate in YMCA programs. More than $25,000 already has been raised for Stiles’ fund, with an unnamed donor pledging to match any funds raised up to $50,000. The lobby dedication was held Sept. 2, when a permanent memorial was unveiled, along with a plaque listing those who have participated in the Marjory Stiles Endowment. For more information about the fund, call the G. Pearson Ward Branch at 417-862-7456.

Slice of Nice

Festival of Caring-Victory House Style will be held noon-4 p.m. Sept. 18 at 1925 S. Ingram Mill Road. Victory House is Springfield Victory Mission’s transitional shelter for up to 16 women and children. Festival of Caring will include free balloons, clowns, a puppet show, food, tours, face painting and a craft and bake sale. For more information about the event, call Springfield Victory Mission at 417-831-6387.
