Springfield Business Journal is accepting nominations through Jan. 4 for its 2006 Dynamic Dozen awards. Now in its third year, Dynamic Dozen recognizes the 12 fastest-growing companies in the area, based on both dollar and percentage increases since 2003. Independent accounting firm Elliott, Robinson & Co. will tabulate the results. Qualifying companies must have their headquarters within a 50-mile radius of Springfield and have recorded at least $500,000 in annual revenues every year since 2003. An event in March will announce the winners and unveil the 2006 Book of Lists. For more information, call Diana Weber at (417) 831-3238.
‘The Metro Experience’
Appliance distributor Metro Builders Supply introduced “The Metro Experience” cookbook in November. The cookbook consists of more than 300 simple, restaurant-quality recipes, including hors d’oeuvres, main dishes, side dishes and desserts. Additionally, several area chefs have contributed recipes of their signature dishes. Sales of the $15 cookbook, which can be purchased at Metro Builders Supply, 3252 N. Glenstone, benefit a Springfield Public Schools literacy program aimed at raising academic standards and reducing the drop-out rate.
Safe birds
The turkey is a safe bird to eat this Thanksgiving despite concerns of bird flu, according to expert source Lyndon Irwin, a Missouri State University agriculture professor. Irwin said if people follow good food-handling procedures and cook their birds like they are supposed to, then there is no cause for concern about bird flu in America’s food supply. “The U.S. does not import turkeys,” Irwin said. “I have every intention of enjoying turkey this Thanksgiving.” You may, too.
