The deadline looms for nominations for Springfield Business Journal’s second annual Dynamic Dozen awards. The nomination deadline is Jan. 3.
The event, which recognizes 12 of the fastest growing companies in southwest Missouri based on annual revenues, will be held March 10, 2005, at Oasis Inn & Convention Center. Businesses must have their headquarters within 50 miles of Springfield and generate more than $500,000 in annual revenues. In 2004, Russell Cellular was named the No. 1 fastest growing company, with $10 million in sales, up from $3.5 million in 2001. Event tickets are $29 and include a 2005 Book of Lists. Bass Pro picks San Antonio
San Antonio is the next stop on Bass Pro Shops Outdoor World’s nationwide expansion tour, company officials and Texas Gov. Rick Perry announced Dec. 17.
The new store, to be the company’s fourth and largest in Texas, is set to open in late 2005. It will anchor The Rim, a 700-acre mixed-use development that is expected to generate nearly $40 million in new tax revenue when complete in eight years. Bass Pro operates 25 retail locations in 17 states.
Bankruptcy drops
The Administrative Office of the U.S. Courts has reported that both business and nonbusiness bankruptcies declined nationwide in fiscal year 2004, the first decrease in four years. Business filings dropped 3.8 percent, while nonbusiness filings fell 2.6 percent.
Christmas tree drop-off
Through Jan. 2, 2005, Bass Pro Shops is collecting Christmas trees for use by the Missouri Department of Conservation and the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers as fish and wildlife habitat. Christmas trees with ornaments removed are accepted for a $2 donation at Bass Pro’s Sportsman’s Park Complex, 2500 E. Kearney. Proceeds go to Ozarks Trail Council Boy Scouts, who are helping unload trees. Drop-off times are 1-6 p.m. through Dec. 31 and 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Jan. 1–2. In 17 years of collecting Christmas trees, Bass Pro has recycled more than 225,000 trees.
Slice of Nice
The American Red Cross Greater Ozarks Chapter is recruiting volunteers for the New Year. Two volunteer orientations are planned – 2-4 p.m. Jan. 4. and 6-8 p.m. Jan. 20 – at the chapter office, 1835 E. Chestnut Expressway. The Ozarks chapter helps communities in times of emergencies in 14 counties. Red Cross volunteers provide educational resources to prevent and prepare for emergencies and are on call to respond when needed.
