AT&T Inc. on Dec. 1 revived its familiar “T” ticker symbol on the Dow 30 after a 20-month absence. AT&T’s Nov. 18 $16 billion merger with SBC Communications Inc. gives the company 3.9 billion outstanding shares – enough to meet Dow 30 size requirements. AT&T was pulled from the Dow 30 in April 2004 after 88 years. The T symbol replaces SBC. American Bell first used the T ticker in 1888 on the Boston Stock Exchange, and AT&T Corp. adopted it in 1930. T shares closed Dec. 6 at $25.20, compared to a 52-week range of $21.79 to $26.17.
