The Springfield Hotel-Motel Association has reported that a city hotel received counterfeit $10 bills. The Springfield Convention & Visitor’s Bureau encourages businesses to take precautions when receiving cash payments. The CVB recommends teaching clerks how to spot counterfeit cash and purchasing a marker to check bill authenticity.
Most Admired Banks
Bank of America, Wells Fargo and Citigroup are the most admired banks in the world and in the United States, according to new Fortune magazine lists. The magazine polled more than 8,600 executives and directors at 351 companies in 30 industries. The global respondents scored Bank of America as the most admired bank with a score of 7.59 on a 10-point scale, followed by Citigroup, 7.43, and Wells Fargo, 7.29. In America, Wells Fargo topped the list with 7.69, followed by Bank of America. 7.43 and Citigroup, 7.2.
Nonna’s sale talks
A downtown dining staple could be under new ownership soon. Representatives of Nonna’s Italian American Café, 306 South Ave., confirmed that sales negotiations are ongoing with multiple parties, but there is no deal in place. Nonna’s has been downtown for about 15 years. Owner Mary Faucett also owns Nonna’s Bambino, 1141 E. Delmar, though there is no word on whether that facility would be included in a sale.
Slice of Nice
The Victim Center is making an urgent plea for volunteers. Officials are seeking volunteer applications for its spring mini-training session, noon–5 p.m. May 31, at The Victim Center, 819 Boonville Ave.
The free class teaches volunteers how to assist victims of violent crimes. Victim advocates typically respond to telephone hotline calls but also are summoned to hospitals or crime scenes to assist victims. Applications are available by calling Paula Tindell at (417) 863-7273. The Victim Center is a United Way non-profit agency that offers crisis intervention 24 hours a day, counseling and advocacy services to child, adolescent and adult victims of sexual and other violent crimes.
Twice of Nice
The U-Haul Company of Missouri is offering 30 days of free storage and discounts on equipment and moving supplies to Springfield families who have been affected by the recent tornadoes. “I hope this effort will provide assistance to families that truly need a helping hand,” said U-Haul Missouri President Tony Rost, in a news release.
There are two U-Haul Centers in Springfield: 3150 S. Campbell, (417) 887-4041, and 1768 N. Glenstone, (417) 866-4893.
