Community
James B. Anderson, president of the Springfield Area Chamber of Commerce, was inducted into RMI's Nelson J. Glasgow Hall of Fame. The hall of fame recognizes people who have shown exemplary service to RMI and economic development.
Bonus Frost, vice president of membership for the Springfield Area Chamber of Commerce, was elected to a two-year term on the board of directors of the National Association for Membership Development. NAMD provides resources and services to chambers of commerce and similar organizations for professional development.
Donna Farr received the Gift of Time Civic and Community Betterment Award from the city of Springfield and the Council of Churches. The award recognizes outstanding members of the community who devote their time to charitable causes.
Education
Patricia S. Holbert, a graduate student at Webster University's Ozarks Regional Campus, is a recipient of the 2000-01 George H. Kaye Scholarship. The scholarship is awarded to promote the academic preparation and practice of healthcare human resources.
Dr. Rebecca Huechteman, associate professor and chairman of the education department at Evangel University, is the recipient of the 2000 E.M. and Estella Clark Award for Excellence in Teaching, Scholarship and Service. The award includes an unrestricted cash grant.
Evangel University awarded its first group of master's degrees May 5. Dr. James Bihlmeyer, assistant professor of communication and mass media at SMSU, received a bronze Telly Award for his film, "Double Bull's-Eye."
Dr. Mark Paxton, assistant professor of communication and mass media at SMSU, and Dr. Tom Dickson, professor of communication and mass media at SMSU, had their paper, "Hazelwood vs. Kuhlmeier and Censorship of the Scholastic Press: Do State Freedom of Expression Laws Matter?" accepted for publication in the Summer 2000 issue of Journalism and Mass Communication Educator.
Dr. Lynn Robbins, professor of biology at SMSU was awarded $3,083 from the Missouri Department of Conservation for the project "Current Status of Indiana Bats in Northwest Missouri Using Mist Net and Bat Detectors."
Jack Ray, term research instructor for SMSU's Center for Archaeological Research, was awarded $21,586.34 from the HNTB Corporation for the project "Supplemental Cultural Resources Survey for Route 21 Improvements, MoDOT Job Nos. J6P0876 and J6P1008 (CAR-1102).
Erica L. Horton was named by SMSU the recipient of the 2000-01 Joseph N. Boyce/Wall Street Journal Public Affairs Award. The $1,000 award is given to students who demonstrate a record of service and leadership qualities that are consistent with the goal of the school's public affairs mission.

Joy Lamberson-Klock, a Gold Team financial advisor with American Express Financial Advisors Inc., was named Master Advisor for achieving a specific level of sales in 1999.
State
Raeanne E. Presley, co-owner of Presleys' Country Jubilee in Branson, was appointed to the Missouri Tourism Commission by Gov. Mel Carnahan.
Marjorie B. Schramm of Kirkwood, was appointed to the Missouri State Highway and Transportation Commission by Gov. Mel Carnahan.
Dr. Roger E. Huckfeldt, director of Trauma Services for St. John's Health System in Springfield, was appointed to the State Advisory Council on Emergency Medical Services by Gov. Mel Carnahan.
William C. Prince, a member of legal counsel for the Greene County Juvenile Office was appointed by Gov. Carnahan to serve on the Child Abuse and Neglect Review Board.
Hospitality
Gail Myer, vice president of operations for Myer Hotels in Branson, is the new vice chairman of Best Western's Executive Marketing Advisory Committee. The committee is made up of Best Western members and represents members through marketing.
Best Western Center Pointe Inn in Branson received the Best Western Excellence Award in Housekeeping for outstanding quality standards. The award is given to hotels with a perfect cleanliness inspection score during quality inspections.
Health and Medicine
Gary Smith, executive vice president of Cox Health Systems, was appointed to the Missouri Leadership Council for Nursing Students Advisory Committee of the Missouri League for Nursing.
The Missouri League for Nursing was awarded a two-year grant by the Helene Fuld Health Trust of New York to create the Missouri Leadership Council for Nursing Students, and to facilitate mentor relationships between nursing students and league members.
Burrell Behavioral Health, in conjunction with the Greene County Juvenile Court and the Springfield School District, received a two-year grant from the Missouri Department of Mental Health. The grant is to be used to allow the groups to study how various factors can lead to violence in youth, and to look closely at whether the different factors are open to outside change.
Wanda Cowan, RNC, BSN, CWPCM, clinical research associate in clinical affairs for COROMED Inc. of Springfield, was installed as president-elect of the Missouri League For Nursing at its recent annual convention. She will become president of MLN in 2002.

Larry Jansen, CPCU, CIC, of PJC Insurance, received the professional insurance designation of Property Casualty Underwriter from the American Institute for CPCU.
Ten courses, essay examinations, and ethics and experience requirements are used in the testing for CPCU.

Janet Higdon, PLS, of the law firm of Daniel, Clampett, Powell & Cunningham LLC, was voted Legal Secretary of the Year by the Missouri Association of Legal Secretaries.

Tommy Ridenhour, Michael Frerking, Jerry Palmer, Nigel Templeton and Aaron Jernigan, loan officers with First Horizon Home Loan Corp., were named 1999 inductees for the President's Club. Each inductee exceeded the goal of closing more than 132 home loans during 1999. All five ranked in the top 1 percent of the corporation's loan officers.
