Paula Hopkins is a new member of the National Society of Fundraising Executives and the Ozarks Region Chapter. Hopkins is currently the executive director of the Springfield Public Schools Foundation.

The following people have completed the first-line supervision certificate program at SMSU's Management Development Institute: Scott Chaney, Wendy Greer, Michale Hart, Rebecca Lauthern, Chryslyn Marshall, Frank Roscom and Jennifer Williams.

In addition, the following people have completed the human resource certificate program at the Management Development Institute: Kimberly Bass, Stephen Cochran, Vicki Eidson, Rebecca Gunn, Christie Hirsch, Holly Loven, Mark Newbold, Linda Preston, Sheryl Roberts, Athena Rohlman, Anita Sitton, Wanda Stutzman and Becky Thompson. Also, the following have completed the mid-management certificate program: Mike Baxter, Noel Chase, Michelle Fugate, Rick Hedden, Steve Hernandez, Pam Hilton, Ann Howell, Mike Howarton, Debbie Johnson, Mike Oberkrom, Mike Osborn, Ray Piatt and Bonita Reed.

The Make-A-Wish Foundation of Missouri has announced the officers selected to serve during fiscal year 1998-99: Dardi Smith, president; Louise Henson, president-elect; Jerry Reynolds, secretary; and Terry Brazeale, treasurer. In addition, new directors include: Marci Burdick, Craig Easter, Bob Hammerschmidt, Ted Hamilton, Peggy Taylor and Jerry Walters. Retiring board members include John Moore, Thom Field, Paul Elmore, Anita Wood, Nancy Robinson, Bob Jacobsmeyer and Don Ryan.

Members of the Greene County Legal Secretaries Association were given awards by the Missouri Association of Legal Secretaries. Those receiving awards include Wanda Morgan, who won the Jett Award, and Lisa Tanner, who earned the Missouri Legal Secretary of the Year award. In addition, the chapter's history book took first place, and the chapter received the second-place Chapter Achievement Award.

Gary D. Slater, director of the Missouri State Fair, has been designated a certified fair executive by the International Association of Fairs and Expositions. The certification is based on a scorecard of management skills, education and leadership.

Mitch D. Wilson, a consultant with the Springfield office of Baird, Kurtz & Dobson, CPAs, has been awarded the certified Novell administrator designation by Novell Inc. Wilson works on the management consulting services team and provides computer consulting and network consulting services.

KOLR-TV has earned a 1998 Muscular Dystrophy Association Broadcast Journalism Award for increasing public understanding of neuromuscular diseases and stimulating public support of MDA. KOLR received first place in Telethon Promos, for a promotion called "Men in Black ... Socks."

Prime Inc. has named Charles Gary the Prime Refrigerated Division Contractor of the Month for April. He logged 25,375 miles in the month of April at an average fuel cost of 17 cents per mile.

Prime also named Tim Prouty as the Flatbed Division Contractor of the Month for April. Prouty logged 15,420 solo miles in April at an average fuel cost of 18 cents per mile.

Jesse Daly recently passed all four parts of the Uniform CPA Examination. Daly is currently employed with Whitlock, Selim & Keehn, LLP.

Jon Dimalanta, human resources manager for Z-Tech Companies Inc., has been appointed to the city of Springfield Personnel Board by City Council. The Personnel Board is responsible for advising City Council, the city manager and the director of personnel in personnel matters, and makes any investigation which it considers desirable concerning the administration of personnel in the municipal services.

Coyote's Adobe Cafe swept the awards presented at the Wing Ding June 11. Coyote's took first place in the Judge's Choice Award for "Best Wings in Springfield," the People's Choice Award for "Best Wings in Springfield" and first for booth display.

Robinett Business Systems has announced award winners for the month of May:

Bob Hancock earned Copier Salesperson of the Month, while Larry Blaha won Mailing Salesperson of the Month. Also, Scott Hewlett earned Service Employee of the Month and Employee of the Month.

Mike Priest, lease operator for Prime Inc., earned a check for $12,242 for the successful completion of his fifth consecutive truck lease. Priest is a Prime driver who has been with the company since 1981.

Prime has also announced recipients for continuous on-time performance awards. Gene Pace earned top honors with five consecutive years of on-time performance, while Christina Sanders reached the four-year mark. The following drivers achieved the two-year mark: Kathleen Bartlett, Randolf Bartlett, Judy Harrington, Chris Haynes, Emile Radulescu, Michael Rolko, John Sampley, Freddie Thomas and James Wilson.

Sean Prewitt of American Express Financial Advisors, and Mitch Baker of Sunburst Media, have been elected to the Southwest Region of Easter Seals' board of directors.

D.L. Media Inc. has been named National Winner and National Finalist in the Silver Microphone Awards for 1998. The competition is designed to select the best local and regional radio commercials created by advertising agencies, production companies and radio stations. A campaign for Ry Bread and Apple Cor's was named National Winner in the category of Best Use of Humor and named National Finalist in the Restaurant category. The spots were created by D.L. Media employees Dianne Miner, Gina Copeland and Rick Moore.

Five area communications businesses have received ninth-level Addy Awards for excellence in marketing and advertising in various categories: Noble & Associates; John Rutkowski Illustration (two awards); The Marlin Company (two awards); Schilling & Sellmeyer; and Graif Design.

The KOSP/KKLH Sound Factory was recently recognized for broadcast excellence during the annual Missouri Broadcasters Association convention in St. Louis. KOSP claimed first place in the Station-Sponsored Community Event, Medium Market Radio category for the entry "Cycle/ReCycle." The spots were produced by Kathy Morgan with voice talent by Don Kellogg and copywriting by John Stinson. KOSP/KKLH also had four radio commercials named as national

finalists in the 1998 Silver Microphone Awards.

Perkin-Watts Advertising was named a national finalist in the Silver Microphone Awards in the Public Service category for its Greyhound Pets of America campaign, "Adopt Me." The spots were produced by Kathy Morgan, voiced by Katie Long and Rick Masters, and copywriting was done by Kristy Wolfe.

The Ozarks Literacy Council voted in three new directors at its June meeting: Jim Enyart, Ollis & Co.; Dr. Patricia Feltes, SMSU; and Brian Rogers, World Library Press.

Gary Groeteke, Will Pollock, Mike Pace and Christy Sweeney, all of Robinett Business Systems, recently attended a seminar concerning Selling in a Highly Competitive Industry. The four also attended the Minolta presentation of Basic Systems of Selling.

Easter Seals has elected two new members to its board of directors: Bill Southworth, of Barker Phillips Jackson Insurors, and Jeff Johnson, of The Team.

The Camp Fire Boys and Girls awarded its highest honors at Grand Council recently. The highest award for a club leader is the Jo Roebke Leadership Award, which was presented to Sharon Meredith, of Willard, for her outstanding leadership and service to youth and the community. The Jo Roebke Campership Award was presented to Brent Chambers, of Springfield, for his excellent club service and community involvement.

Dr. Steven P. Quinn recently traveled to Toronto, Canada, as a featured guest speaker for a meeting of the Canadian Dental Association. The conference was attended by 2,500 doctors. Quinn spoke on advanced reconstructive oral surgical procedure related to dental implants.

The Ozark Counseling Center has added four members to its board of directors: Barbara Lucks, Dr. Glenn McCray, Carrolyn Arthur and Mary Collette.

Kristi Stephens, of Galena, has been selected as the 1998 Young Careerist for the Ozark Mountain Country Chapter of Business and Professional Women USA. Stephens has served as Stone County deputy treasurer for the past five years and is running for county treasurer. She has been selected into the International Who's Who of Professional Management.

Dr. C. Norman Shealy received the Alyce and Elmer Green Award at the annual meeting of The International Society for the Study of Subtle Energies and Energy Medicine. The award acknowledges outstanding research and clinical contributions in the field of electromedicine.

Missouri Employers Mutual Insurance's communications department earned a Best of Show award for its Facing Fraud public relations campaign in the Insurance Marketing Communications Association 1998 Showcase competition. This is the department's second IMCA Showcase award.

CornerStone Fine Jewelry designer Hallie Sale received the Craftsmanship Award/Technical Excellence Award at the Missouri Jewelers & Watchmakers Association's 10th Annual Jewelry Design Competition. The design included a 14 karat and 18 karat tricolor gold ring with three color diamonds.

Ron Houseman, Taney County clerk, has been elected as the representative of Missouri county government officials to the National Association of Counties' board of directors. Houseman has served in this capacity since 1990.

Multifoods has named Mark Duffy as Sales Manager of the Year. Each manager is ranked in several categories every year and assigned points based on this ranking. In addition, Jack Kramer has been given the President's Award at Multifoods.

Roseann Bentley was one of two legislators from Missouri selected to attend a regional summit on higher education in June in suburban Chicago. Bentley joined 150 governors, state legislators and college presidents in Oak Brook, Ill., for the Midwestern Higher Education Policy Summit June 3-5.

Richard Brewer was elected president of the Missouri Tow Truck Association at a recent state meeting held in Columbia. Brewer is the owner of Brewer & Sons Wrecker Service in Kahoka.

Kevin W. Tharp, coordinator of the Ozarks Regional Information Online Network, was elected as charter president of the Missouri Association of Community Information Networks.

Blackwell Sanders Matheny Weary & Lombardi LLP of Kansas City has merged with Peper, Martin, Jensen, Maichel and Hetlage of St. Louis. The new firm, which will be known as Blackwell Sanders Peper Martin, will have more than 300 attorneys, making it one of the 75 largest law firms in the country.

Express Personnel Services was recently ranked the Best of the Best Temporary Staffing Services nationwide, according to Entrepreneur Magazine's 1998 Best of the Best rankings.

Harold Yen-Ho Law is the recipient of the 1998 Governor's Leadership Award for his work to promote economic development, especially minority-owned small businesses, in the St. Louis area. Law is the owner of Decisions and Advanced Technology Associates, a technology information management and engineering firm.
