Kentucky Fried Chicken and Easter Seals teamed up during May to raise funds through the Red Lily campaign, with sales of red paper lilies for $1. This first effort raised $1,700 to directly benefit children with disabilities throughout southwest Missouri.
The Camp Fire Boys and Girls Ozarks Council received a grant from the Silver Dollar City Foundation for $2,000. Also, the Community Foundation awarded $3,000 to the Camp Fire Boys and Girls for a new lawn mower/tractor. In addition, the Ozarks Council was offered a $625 grant from the Nixa Community Foundation; a $1,000 grant from the Springfield Southeast Rotary Club; and a $3,000 grant from Ozarks Fighting Back.
The Community Foundation of the Ozarks has awarded the Springfield Visual Arts Alliance a grant of $2,350 from the Jess Graham Fund to assist in developing the Patrons Gallery and meeting space. The grant is for the purchase of a computer, laser printer, software and an office desk and chair.
Community Foundation of the Ozarks presented a grant of $2,405 to the Community Blood Center of the Ozarks for the purchase of a Zebra Blood Labeling Unit. The grant comes from the Charlotte W. Bostwick Endowment Fund.
The Family Violence Center Inc. has received a grant of $3,000 from the Community Foundation of the Ozarks to fund community education activities. The funds will be used for printing informative materials and will help the center conduct its 130 annual presentations.
The Greater Ozarks Area Chapter of the Muscular Dystrophy Association is currently seeking volunteers to work behind the scenes during its annual Jerry Lewis "Stars Across America!" Labor Day Telethon. The telethon will broadcast Sept. 6 and 7. Anyone interested should contact Kelly Harter at the MDA office at 866-5117 for more information.
More than 700 runners hit the streets to benefit sick and injured Ozarks children in the Seventh Annual Cox Medical Mile. The event raised $2,400 for the Children's Miracle Network's C.A.R.E. Mobile, a mobile wellness and immunization clinic.
The Springfield News-Leader has awarded grants to five local organizations through the Gannett Foundation. Grants totaling $4,000 were awarded to The Kitchen, Parenting Life Skills Center, Springfield Community Center, Springfield Family
Y and the Springfield Symphony Association.
The Springfield Evening and Springfield Hosts Lions Clubs have donated $1,000 and $750 respectively to the Missouri Lions Eye Research Foundation in Columbia. This donation will help to support several of the Foundation's programs, including the Heartland Lions Eye Bank, a mobile glaucoma detection unit, amblyopia screening, eyeglass recycling and more.
