Dr. Wanda Brandon, SMSU assistant professor of journalism, and Dr. Tom Dickson, SMSU professor of journalism, had their paper titled "Dialogue of the Deaf: Do Educators and Practitioners Agree on the Broadstreet Journalism Curriculum Needed at the Start of the 21st Century?" selected as the top paper in the Courses, Curricula and Administration Division of the Broadcast Educators Association at its meeting held recently in Las

Vegas.

Dr. Bryan Denham, SMSU assistant professor of journalism, had his paper, titled "Performance Enhancing Drug Use in Amateur and Professional Sports: Separating Realities from the Ramblings," accepted for presentation at the International Conference on Sports and Society held in July in Marquette, Mich. He also was invited to appear on the panel "Pushing the Limits of Expression: The Proliferation of Hate-Speech Web Sites" at the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication's conference held in August in New Orleans.

John LaNear, director of Webster University's Ozarks Regional Campus, traveled to Ft. Sam Houston to speak at a Webster University Alumni Association. LaNear addressed Webster graduates, guests and soldiers stationed at Ft. Sam Houston on how to make a winning argument in the workplace.

Denise McCoy, of Barclay Enterprises Inc., has earned a human resources certificate from the SMSU Management Development Institute. McCoy attended a human resources

seminar and accumulated 63 classroom hours.

Ozarks Technical Community College has named the following new members to its Foundation Board: Jerry Clark, Louise Henson, Chris Nattinger, Nikki Sells and Jack Stack. The 19-member board raises scholarship money for the students of OTC.

Laynah Rogers, an associate professor and director of the Academic Support Center at Evangel University, was awarded an EdD in adult education from Nova Southeastern University. Rogers' major applied-research project was a plan to implement adult studies and continuing education at Evangel.

Duane and Becky Huechteman, professors of Evangel University, have been recognized for earning their doctorate degrees simultaneously in 1998. Becky, an associate professor of education and chairman of Evangel's education department, earned a PhD in curriculum and instruction from the University of Missouri-Columbia. Duane, an associate professor of mathematics, earned an EdD in higher education from Nova Southeastern University.
