Community

Lake Country Soccer of Branson elected four new officers during its annual general meeting in November. They are Mike Mattson, president; Wayne Clements, vice president; Scott Cunningham, secretary; and Joy Ward, treasurer. Seven members were also elected to the board of directors: Wayne Clements, Alexis Anders, Russ Cook, Andy Ellsworth, Bill Nesbitt, Jeff Shore and Joey Staples.

Decorating

Karlyn Holder, of Wallpaper World of Springfield, received the title of certified interior decorating consultant, which indicates expertise in the field of decorating and application.

Education

Forrest "Fob" James, former Alabama governor, was inducted March 6 into the Southwest Baptist University Students in Free Enterprise Honor Roll of American Entrepreneurs.

Government

Terry Cross of Hollister has been selected to serve on the Missouri Citizen's Commission on Compensation for Elected Officials. Secretary of State Bekki Cook appointed nine Missouri residents at random from each of Missouri's congressional districts for the committee.

Peter F. Herschend, Branson businessman, has been appointed to a second eight-year term on the Missouri State Board of Education.

James W. Hutcheson has been appointed by Gov. Mel Carnahan to the Missouri Real Estate Commission. He is the president and chief executive officer of Jim Hutcheson Realtors Inc. The commission works to protect the public from incompetence, misconduct, gross negligence, fraud, misrepresentation and dishonesty in real estate.

Juliet Mee, owner of Professional Massage Training Center, has been appointed by Gov. Mel Carnahan and confirmed by the Missouri Senate to serve on the Missouri Board for Therapeutic Massage.

Virginia F. Mee has been appointed by Gov. Mel Carnahan and confirmed by the Missouri Senate to serve on the Missouri Training and Employment Council.

Carolyn Davis Newport has been reappointed by Gov. Mel Carnahan to the Missouri Family Trust Fund Board of Trustees. She is secretary and treasurer of Newport Associates Inc. The board votes on all governing policy of the Missouri Family Trust Act.

Cynthia A. Rushefsky has been reappointed by Gov. Mel Carnahan to the Child Abuse and Neglect Review Board. She is the assistant prosecuting attorney for Greene County. The board provides an independent review of child abuse and neglect decisions when the alleged perpetrator is mistreated by decisions of the Division of Family Services.

TV23, the city of Springfield's government information channel, received three awards from the National Association of Telecommunication Officers and Advisors. TV23 received second place in overall excellence in the government programming category. "The Community is a Park," profiling the Springfield-Greene County Parks and Recreation Department, won second place in its category. "ABC's," a public service announcement on proper use of child safety seats, received a third-place award. The city received two awards from City-County Communications Association: an award of excellence for "City Beat," and an award of excellence for "The Winning Team."

Ted A. Smith, president of DeWitt and Associates Inc., has been reappointed by Gov. Mel Carnahan to the Land Reclamation Commission. The commission sets policy for the program, adopts regulations and hears appeals of staff permitting and enforcement action.

Dr. Barry D. Spoon has been reappointed by Gov. Mel Carnahan to the State Board of Registration for the Healing Arts. Spoon is an emergency physician for St. John's Hospital. The board registers, licenses and regulates all physicians and surgeons in the state.

Law

The Greene County Legal Secretaries Association held its annual Bosses' Night Feb. 8 and announced the following awards: Jennifer Martin, ALS, with Aleshire, Robb & Sivils, has been named Outstanding New Member; Paul F. Sherman, of Daniel, Clampett, Powell & Cunningham LLC, has been named Boss of the Year; Janet Higdon, PLS, of Daniel, Clampett, Powell & Cunningham, received the Sandy Schoen Enthusiasm is Irresistible Award and has been selected as Legal Secretary of the Year; and Rodney E. Loomer, with Turner, Reid, Duncan, Loomer & Patton PC, spoke on behalf of the Springfield Metropolitan Bar Association.

Jerry L. Redfern, a senior partner with the law firm of Neale & Newman LLP, has been elected president of Legal Aid of Southwest Missouri.
