Southwest Missouri State University announced several faculty and staff accomplishments. Dr. Tom Dickson, professor of communications and mass media, had a paper titled "Journalism Education: Weathering the Storm," accepted for presentation at the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communications convention that will be held Aug. 9 in Phoenix, Ariz. John Avery, research associate for the SMSU fruit science department, received $1,000 for research studies from the Missouri Grape Growers Association of Park Hill. Dr. Beat Kernen, associate professor of political science, was awarded $23,018 from the American Council for International Education, for his project, "Junior Faculty Development Program." Dr. David Hough, head of the Institute for School Improvement, received $20,082 for the evaluation of Successlink, a state program on teacher curriculum and instructional processes from the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.
