Education
Southwest Missouri State University announced several staff and faculty accomplishments. Caron L. Daugherty, transfer adviser, received a scholarship to attend the Academic Advising Summer Institute, a week-long program in Lexington, Ky. Dr. Daniel Wilson, assistant professor of health, physical education and recreation, was awarded $8,866 from the University of Missouri-Columbia for his project, "Missouri Model Brain Injury System." Dr. Yohannon T. Abraham, professor of management, was awarded $86,000 from the U.S. Department of Education for his project entitled, "An Experiential and Web-Based Big Emerging Markets Globalization Initiative for Faculty, Graduate Students and Business Professionals." Neal Moore, co-founder of SMSU's Ozarks Labor Union Archives, and adjunct faculty member in the library science department, received the President's Award at the Midwest Archives Conference May 5 in Chicago, Ill. The award recognizes significant contributions to the archival profession by individuals, institutions and organizations not directly involved in archival work, but knowledgeable about its purpose. Dr. Kevin Mickus, professor of geography, geology and planning, received $938 from the New Mexico Bureau of Mine and Mineral Resources-Socorro, N.M., for his project, "Gravity Study of the Mount Taylor Volcanic Field, New Mexico." Dr. Rex Cammack, assistant professor of geography, geology and planning, was awarded $24,000 from the Greene County Planning and Zoning Department for his project, "Development of Geographic Information Systems Applications Useful to Evaluate Conservation Development Requests, Including the Mapping of Significant Environmental Natural and Cultural Features."
Robert Wood, a graduate of Climax Springs High School, received a $1,500 community scholarship from the Simon Youth Foundation.
Environment
Jeffrey Evans, crew leader for T-N-T Tree and Landscape Inc., successfully completed the certified arborist examination administered by the International Society of Arborculture and the local ISA chapter.
Finance
Lori Ann Coyle, compliance officer for Metropolitan National Bank, was appointed to a three-year term on the Missouri Bankers Association's Compliance Committee.
Kurt Hellweg, president and chief executive officer of American Dehydrated Foods Inc. was named to the board of directors of Guaranty Federal Savings Bank.
Betty Neal, investment representative for Edward Jones, was one of 50 representatives honored at a business management forum Aug. 2-4 in New York City. Neal was recognized for excellence in her demonstration of business management skills.
Housing
The Greater Springfield Apartment & Housing Association received two Paragon of Excellence Awards from the National Apartment Association. One award was in the education category, for SAHA's Better Rental Living Program; the second was in government relations, in recognition of the organization's work with local government officials and other industry-related agencies.
Insurance
Justin Lear, vice president and manager of Polk County Mutual Insurance Company, completed the requirements for the Professional Farm Mutual Manager Certification Program, offered by Farm Mutual Conference of the National Association of Mutual Insurance Companies.
Patrick D. Connell, president of Connell Insurors Inc. in Branson, received the E. Ellwood Willard Outstanding Service Award from the Missouri Association of Insurance Agents at the MAIA's annual conference July 15 in Branson.
Jeff Yoakam was named an All-American Agent by the American Family Insurance Group. The designation is given to agents who distinguish themselves throughout the year in sales production and personal service to policyholders.

Deanna K. Scott received the Equal Access to Justice award from the Springfield Metropolitan Bar Association for providing legal assistance to low-income and elderly members of the community.
