AWARDS AND ACHIEVEMENTS

Art

Joseph and Georgia Pozycinski, artists from Sparta, are featured in a new book, "Beautiful Things: Original Art from the Artists of Guild.com." The couple's "Moon Sculpture" in bronze was chosen for the book from Guild.com's juried collection of 10,000 original works by 1,800 artists.

Community

The Kiwanis Club of Springfield South announced its leadership and board of directors. Club officers are: David Neill, president; Dan Wichmer, president-elect; Russ Tucker, vice president; Bob Dean, secretary; Ken Horn, treasurer; and Stan Arnoldy, immediate past president. The following individuals were named to the club's board of directors: Alan Banta, David Bohnenkamper, Todd Chambers, Sean Taylor, Leroy Day, Randy Eggert, John Flowers and J.D. Nave. Tucker was named the club's Kiwanian of the Year.

Education

The Alumni Association of Evangel University presented several awards during the school's Homecoming 2000 Chapel Service Oct. 6. Anne (Teuber) McSpadden received the President's Award. Michael Kolstad received the Outstanding Young Alumnus Award. Kolstad holds a doctorate of musical arts in trombone performance. Reverend Hubert Morris and Turner Collins, PhD, received Distinguished Service Awards.

Ozarks Technical Community College's customized training department received the AchieveGlobal Education & Economic Development Network Partnership in Excellence Award in October at AchieveGlobal's annual conference. The department received the award for its work with Springfield Remanufacturing Corp. and SRC's Leadership Academy. Perry Epperly, SRC human relations/training manager and founder of the Leadership Academy, also was honored.

Seven Evangel University professors were selected for inclusion in the 2000 edition of Who's Who Among America's Teachers. The professors and their positions are:

Tourism

The Ozark Empire Fair received several awards at the annual convention of the International Association of Fairs and Expositions Nov. 27-30 in Las Vegas. The fair earned first place honors in five categories for Division II fairs, which have an attendance of 100,001 to 250,000: two communication awards; an exhibits award; Outstanding Newspaper Ad-Black and White, for the Strut Your Stuff 2000 ad campaign; and Outstanding Use of Fair's Theme in Competitive Exhibits. The fair also won a new outstanding newsletter award and two awards for agriculture programs: Outstanding Overall Program for Competitive Exhibitors and Outstanding Special Agriculture Education Event for the Fairgoing Public, which was received for the Kids Co-op activity area at the 2000 Ozark Empire Fair.
