Nixa Hardware to celebrate 100 years

Nixa's oldest business, Nixa Hardware, turns 100 years old in April. The business, located at U.S. Highway 160 and State Highway 14, will hold a two-week celebration beginning April 10.

Included in the activities are live music by bands Inside Exit the first weekend and Big Smith the second weekend. Free food and drinks will be provided both weekends, along with special commemorative Coca-Cola glass bottles denoting the store's 100th anniversary.

A live remote broadcast from Coyote Country 92.9 FM will also be held. Donations for the Children's Miracle Network will be accepted throughout the event.

Nixa Hardware became affiliated with Ace Hardware in 1984. The owners of the store are Gary Murray, his wife, Macanna Murray, and her brother, Larry McCroskey. The general manager is Joey Glenn.

"Not many businesses have an opportunity to celebrate 100 years. We look at this as our gift to our customers," McCroskey said. "We hope everyone will come out and help us celebrate."

McCroskey began working at the hardware store full-time in 1969. Murray became involved in the store in 1966.
