Christian County: Traffic signal slated for 160 at Road AA

Leo Cologna, traffic operations engineer for District 8, confirmed that the Missouri Department of Transportation will install a traffic signal and left turn lane on State Highway 160 at Road AA, just north of Nixa.

The signal bases have been poured, but the rest of the work will not begin until August or September, according to Cologna.

A 200-foot long northbound-Highway 160-to-westbound-AA lane will be added in addition to the lights. The impetus for the project came from a phone call to the department regarding the difficulty of turning onto Highway 160.

When MoDOT did a traffic survey, it discovered "more traffic than we anticipated. It met the volume criteria for a signal there," Cologna said.

Chamber's Showcase '99 set for April 17

The Strafford Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring Showcase '99 on April 17 at the Super 8 Motel/Convention Center in Strafford 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The event is being held to showcase the Strafford community as a whole, so not only will local businesses be featured among the nearly 50 booths, but other organizations, such as Ozarks Technical Community College.

The city of Strafford, Strafford Fire Protection District and the Strafford School District will be there to provide information, according to Kathryn Wilkerson, chamber treasurer.

Seventh District Congressman Roy Blunt will speak to exhibitors at a continental breakfast prior to the event's opening. There will be free admission, door prizes and food for sale by the Strafford Schools Booster club. The new Strafford City Directory and Day Planner publication will also be given away.

The State Treasurer's Office will have computers at its booth to allow people to see if they have any unclaimed property or money due them from the state, class action suits or electric cooperative refunds.

"You may find treasures in Strafford you're not aware of," Wilkerson said. For information, call the Chamber Hotline, 736-4422. To register for a booth, call Wilkerson at Carousel Cleaners, 736-2272 or 862-6946.[[In-content Ad]]
